Choosing a Swimming Pool Safety Cover

If you are considering the purchase of a swimming pool safety cover you need to consider the options available so that you get the one that best suits your needs. Below is an explanation of the two most popular choices.

The Solid swimming safety Pool Cover

The solid safety cover, as its name implies, covers the pool with a strong, solid material such as a vinyl. There are several issues with this type of cover. Rain water pools in the middle of the cover and mosquitoes love this and use it as a breeding ground.

The rain water can also be a hazard for small children, pets and wild animals because if someone or something stepped onto the cover, the rain water would rush into the depression there weight has created in the cover. Because the cover is wet, it will be very slippery so the intruder may not be able to get out.

This type of safety cover will certainly keep the pool clean and they are available as a winter cover too. You should though, be the type of person who will always get rid of the rain water after each down pour. The water is removed via a pump on larger pools so it isn't a major job but essential none the less. You can also buy pumps that automatically switch on once the water is a few inches deep.

The Mesh swimming pool Safety Cover

A mesh safety cover has two major advantages over the solid cover but is not always suitable as a winter cover. It is strong and will take the weight of a pet or wild animal and even a fully grown person. This will probably be important to you if you have children or their are young children in your neighborhood.

The other advantage is that the mesh, while keeping out twigs, leaves and other debris out of the pools water, it will allow rain water to pass through which removes the threat of water pooling that occurs with the solid swimming pool safety cover.

While maybe not keeping the pool as clean as a solid cover, these advantages may be important to your own personal circumstances.

If you are wanting to buy this style of swimming pool safety cover make sure it is the type that fastens down flush with your pool deck to prevent debris blowing underneath.

Not all of these types of safety covers are suitable as a winter cover, so be sure to ask the supplier before you buy.
